Must Have 2011 Spring and Summer Footwear

Feb 21 2011

The must-have footwear for spring/summer 2011 are 60s-70s platform wedge.

Yes they are back!

The modern platform wedges prefer indigenous materials that won’t harm the environment; no synthetic materials here.

Most are made of raffia, wood, leather, rattan, crochet and the likes. It was the D&G platform wedges that initially caught my attention; they were bright, colorful, floral, stylish and fun. Probably the best elements of spring and summer.

60s Platform Wedge

This one featured here is from D&G, but many brands are now keen on platform wedges.

Prada, Miu Miu, Bottega Veneta, are just some. More affordable ones are from Nine West and Steve Madden among others. If you go to Mytheresa.com and Bluefly.com, there are just so many choices and at really affordable prices too (they always have something on sale;  just be patient in clicking through all the displays and you’re sure to find one). They are so beautiful!

Here are some of my faves from bluefly:

This one is from Prada … it’s currently on sale.

Red Matte Fabric and rattan

This is from Bottega Veneta… They are on sale at 20% off. Thank goodness NYFW came into town and introduced fall 2011 must-haves.. that means Spring must-haves are on sale!

Check out shoes at www.mytheresa.com or www.shiekhshoes.com for really affordable pairs that look just as good. This adorable colored strappy tie-dyed lace-ups from Shiekhshoes are under thirty dollars.

Wedge shoes have always been a popular footwear of choice during the fun seasons of summer and spring. They are stylish, they give you height plus you can wear them in uneven ground and not worry about breaking a heel. You can wear them on sand, or brick roads or gravel. If you’re having a barbecue or if your down at beach, you can still look feminine and chic; no need to sacrifice your glamorous style.

The Wedge this season is not the slim type wedge of the past years; the chunkier the better.  You can walk in them all day;  they wont tilt your feet in a tippy toe angle making them really comfy. And since February is Carnival month, these will be a great choice if you plan to join in the all day parties and parades.

Another wedge I love are the wooden ones with the leather straps. They are not as colorful but they are more neutral and you can wear them with almost anything! I love this very classic shaped 70s platform from Steve Madden; it’s so vintage looking but it has that modern appeal because of contrasting leather straps.

Shoes with height are great because they elongate your legs and make them look like a million miles, plus they also improve posture. When I’m wearing skyhigh I just feel sexier and more …Posh. High heeled shoes will make you stand up straighter… making you look leaner.

Cuts, silhouettes and styles to pair with your platform wedge are romantic Victorian blouses, bohemian dresses/blouses and florals in contrasting patterns.

Here, actresses Ginnifer Goodwin, Leighton Meester and Zoe Saldana are photographed wearing this season’s hottest footwear.
